We are pleased to invite you to participate in a meeting to discuss the environmental and social impacts of a project aimed at disseminating institutional fuel efficient biomass stoves in South Africa.  The meeting will take place on Thursday, February 5, 2008 at 2 pm at the Sihluziwe Primary School 1105 Section F Enkangala, Bronkhorstspruit.
 
An overwhelming majority of institutional kitchens particularly in schools, clinics, restaurants and other catering services in South Africa use inefficient stoves that are fuelled by firewood.  This exposes students, patients and catering professionals to indoor air pollution. It also promotes deforestation and emits large quantities of greenhouse gases.  Yet employing the use of more efficient stoves can mitigate these effects.  This project aims to use carbon finance to move these institutions away from using inefficient stoves.

During the meeting, you will have an opportunity to provide input on project design to ensure that the project is implemented in the most effective and beneficial way possible, taking into account national and local social and environmental issues.
