FTTSA Workshop
"Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA) is hosting a workshop to
introduce "The Code" to South African tourism. The Code is a global
project to combat child sex tourism, which has been successfully
implemented in many countries around the world in Europe, Asia and the
Americas. By subscribing to The Code, members of the tourism private
sector voluntarily commit to prevent child sex tourism (awareness,
training of staff etc.) and report on what they are doing. More
information can be found at www.thecode.org.
Only one country in Africa, Kenya, has implemented The Code. FTTSA
wants to ensure that South Africa is next, and that we do something
about this growing problem before the 2010 World Cup.
As a first step we plan to host a workshop in Johannesburg on 21 August.
This will feature an international expert and case studies from Kenya
(Sun N Sands Hotel) and South Africa (Accor), with a focus on
understanding what implementing The Code means from a
business/client/guest perspective
The workshop takes place in Sandton on 21 August 2007, and again in
Cape Town on 23 August 2007.
