An Opera Night at Savoy Cabbage
Tuesday 7th August at 7 pm.

Join us for an evening of fine food, wine and soaring song from the singers of Cape Town Opera.

Savoy Cabbage reopens from lunchtime on 31st July, after its 3 week winter break.
Whilst everyone has been enjoying a good rest, Chef Peter Pankhurst has been receiving some breathtaking culinary experiences at the top restaurants in Washington DC. We look forward to you joining us in the next few weeks to see how these new influences are incorporated into our daily menu. With a host of celebrations to come in August you will have an even greater incentive to join us and see what he has learnt.

The first of these August events sees the return of the highly successful Savoy Cabbage Opera Evenings.
Cape Town Opera in collaboration with UCT Opera School, are performing Puccini´s La Rondine at the Baxter Theatre 18-25th August.
Paris, The City of Love, is the setting for Giacomo Puccini's tragic-comic masterpiece - La Rondine (The Swallow). At a cocktail party hosted by Magda de Cirvy, the poet Prunier declares that love is in the air. The kept woman of the rich aristocrat Rambaldo, Magda longs for true love. Her thirst for passion is satisfied when she meets the dashing young Ruggero and she spreads her romantic wings. Keeping the details of her relationship with Rambaldo hidden, she flees with her new lover to a seaside cottage. They say a swallow always returns home, and Magda is no exception. Lamenting that she "can be a lover, but never a wife", Magda reveals her
deception to a heartbroken Ruggero and flutters home to her loveless life of privilege and despair.

We invite you to join us on Tuesday 7th August at 7pm for an evening of wonderful singing, delicious food and the fine wines of Lourensford Estate. The Director will give you an insight into the opera and the performers will sing for you between courses. You will be eating a traditional French menu as befits the setting of La Rondine.
Please let us know in advance of any allergies or food restrictions.

The cost is R250 per person including wine, entertainment and service.

Prepayment is required. These evenings are always a sell out. Seating is allocated as soon as prepayment is received, thus early bookers are given the best position to view the singers.
