Powerful Techniques
Facilitator: Ilze van der Merwe

Would you love to...

  • Have more parental control?
  • Teach your children to have more self control?
  • Prepare your children for any situation that is new and may increase their anxiety, for example, going to school for the first time?
  • Encourage your children to develop self-worth and build self-esteem?

This 4-hour workshop provides the basics for effective parenting skills. It is open to parents, teachers and au-pairs. This course is a must for all parents with children in Play Therapy as well as all parents who have not done Filial Play Therapy yet. This course provides the basis for effective parenting skills. After implementing these skills into your family life you will never look back!

What you will learn:

  • Reflective Listening: a communication skill that helps children feel safe and express themselves and where adults can help children feel understood.
  • Limit Setting: how to set appropriate boundaries, regaining parental control and teaching children to make responsible choices for themselves.
  • Structured Doll Play: learn how to prepare children for situations that might cause anxiety or uncertainty.
  • Praise and Encouragement: used to build a child's self-esteem and internal locus of control, rather than motivating them for external rewards

Comments from Parents:

"I feel more relaxed as a parent and I do not sweat the small stuff so much anymore."

"My children stopped whining & nagging. Bed time is easier."

"Our son, Alastair had his tonsils taken out recently. We used the 'Structured doll Play' technique we have learnt about in the Powerful Techniques workshop and the set of dolls we got from Bella Vida Centre to roll play exactly what he would go through, before and after the operation. When the anesthetist put the mask over his face to administer the anesthetic he asked me if I was a child psychologist or teacher, because he had never experienced a child as relaxed as Alastair. This was purely as a result of the dolls, because he know exactly what to expect and when.. We are truly grateful for this great technique and will use it many times to prepare our children for any stressful situation. Every parent should have a set and know about this technique, it was the best thing we could have done for Alastair. The op went well and he recovered quickly. - Thank you!" Dave Myers
