CAPE GOURMET FESTIVAL RESTAURANT WEEK SERVES UP SUPERB FOOD FOR GREAT VALUE
Cape Town, April 2008: It was the French playwright, Moliere who wrote “It is good food and not fine words that keeps me alive.”
And if he were alive today, he would be thrilled to know that Cape Town’s Restaurant Week is back by popular demand with over forty fine dining restaurants participating in the fabulous food season that is the Cape Gourmet Festival.
“Restaurant Week is an obvious extension to The Good Food and Wine Show, South Africa’s largest food, wine and travel extravaganza. It provides locals and visitors access to the crème de la crème of South African restaurants and the chefs have the stage to demonstrate their signature dishes to a much wider audience”, explains Cape Gourmet Festival Director Christine Cashmore.
Participating restaurants have designed a delicious two-course gourmet lunch, for a set price starting from R75 or a sumptuous three-course gourmet dinner from R110; both menus include a glass of carefully paired wine. Each menu is specially devised to reflect the culture and style of each restaurant and will leave patrons mouths watering.
The event has grown tremendously including a selection of magnificent restaurants along the Garden Route.
“This year, restaurants spanning six categories will showcase their specialities; Contemporary, Foreign and Exotic, Gourmet and Fine Dining, New, Seafood, South African and African, to reflect the true global nature of South Africa’s eating culture”, says Cashmore.
Guests can also compliment the chef after their fabulous meal by voting for their favourite restaurant on www.gourmetsa.com. By voting they also stand to win 2 cases of International award winning wine.
Restaurants participating in the annual Restaurant Week have the opportunity to broaden their platform by also appearing at the AFROX Best South African Restaurant Chef’s Theatre, during the Good Food and Wine Show, where visitors can see these talented chefs demonstrating the salacious signature dishes of their restaurant.
“Restaurant week is a very important part of our yearly marketing strategy. Each year we are introduced to new customers that might otherwise not have given us a try” said Alex van Nes owner of popular Cape Town restaurant, Five Flies.
“The response from the public was tremendous and we almost did in excess of 400 diners eating the gourmet menu. Upon seeing the success of the menu and restaurant week we are launching our new winter Gourmet Tasting Menu – the menu will work the same way as gourmet week and will run in conjunction with our a la carte menu until the end of August.
The exposure you provided through your marketing was just awesome.” Oscar Kotze – CEO Beluga Restaurant
